Parent Duty

You will probably notice us talking a lot about parent/carer/guardian help throughout the season. With athletics comprising so many events, our centre cannot function without it. Parent duty is a great way to get involved in athletics. It allows you to get in the middle of the action with your child, rather than watching from the sidelines. Your kids will appreciate you being part of it too.

To run smoothly as a centre, we need all families to commit to helping at least once every three weeks. The best way to do this is by signing up to a role in Program 1, 2 or 3. Signing up is via Sign Up Genius or you can contact your club rep to explain roles further and allocate one to you.

For each event on the program we have key officials (KOs) that will be allocated by our individual clubs. KOs are typically very experienced in running their allocated events. They will help explain your role to you and answer any questions you may have. They will be identifiable by their lanyards. There is no need to sign up to a KO role, these will be allocated. However, we do need you to sign up to a support role such as a ‘crew’ role, ‘centre allocated duty’, ‘age group manager’, ‘marshall’, ‘admin helper’ etc.

From this week, parents on duty will wear a fluorescent vest so that they are easily identifiable to our athletes and each other. We will also have a parent duty desk set up at the front gate. Parents performing a role in Program 2 can collect their vests at the desk on entry and ask any questions of our coordinators. A parent from each family will be asked to confirm they have signed up to at least one program. If they have not volunteered for a role, they will be allocated one on entry.
