Hi everyone

It’s nearing the end of the work week and it’s time to talk about relays. Relays are one of the centerpieces of the athletics calendar. They are one of the few opportunities our athletes have to compete as a team. It’s my favorite part of the season.

The first event on our calendar is the Box Hill relay day which will be taking place at Box Hill athletics club on Sunday 12 November 2023. This event is more of a relaxed introduction to relays and has a social feel to it. It is available to age groups from U8 to U17. Shuttle races are also held for U6 and U7. It is a great way for our teams to prepare for regionals.

Our eastern metro region (EMR) regional relay championships will be held 6 days later at Yarra Ranges LAC on Saturday 18 November 2023. It is available for U9+ age groups.

Teams that win the regional championships or otherwise progress based on times will compete at the state championships held at Lakeside stadium in Albert Park on Saturday 16 December 2023.

Relay events comprise the following:
- 4Γ—100m girls and boys teams
- 4Γ—100m mixed teams
- 4Γ—200m girls and boys teams
- 4Γ—200m mixed teams
- Swedish medley comprising 100m, 300m, 200m, 400m girls and boys teams

Athletes can compete in a maximum of 4 events.

Information on how you can sign your athletes up for these fantastic relay events will follow shortly.
